An Evening with Lea Gilmore! Classes/Presentations (adults and children) The below have been presented at arts camps, schools, universities and cultural centers in nationally and internationally: “Beltin’ Boppin’ and Blues – Women in the Blues" A survey course on the historical and contemporary contributions of women in blues music; also including blues singing technique. “Seeking Our Common Ground” A lecture/concert exploring the importance of healing racial and cultural divides through music. “Singing from the Soul - Exploring Your Voice” A way too fun class instructing how to “think outside the box” and expand the singing voice and soul at the same time! “The Roots of African American Music” A survey course where students sing and learn the history of Negro spirituals, field hollers, Blues, Jazz and Gospel. “How to Sing the Blues” A class for adults teaching blues singing and general vocal technique. African American Spirituals Ensemble Leading a group of vocalists in singing and interpreting the African American Spiritual “Songs of the US Civil Rights Movement” An exciting performance and lecture on the songs of freedom and protest from the US Civil Rights Movement. “That’s the Gospel!" Choir Workshops With Lea on the piano, she works with school, university, community and church choirs to teach Gospel singing technique and singing with your heart. At the end of the workshop, the choir will have performance ready Gospel songs! ***The following are GREAT FOR SCHOOLS (all ages)*** "Soul of A People - African American Music Traditions" With excitement, passion, humor and joy, Lea and Marc Borms (pianist) take you on a musical journey of the music of Black Americans. From Spirituals to Gospel and Blues to Jazz, African American music has greatly influenced music around the world. It has formed the foundations of popular music from New York to Tokyo. Lea and Belgian pianist Marc Borms have been collaborating for almost a decade. This is a collaboration that personifies all of our common ground, transcending race and culture to convey our oneness – our common humanity. They continue to successfully tell these musical stories, with messages of tolerance, justice and peace, that are inspirational to all. This presentation can also include classroom visits. “That’s the Gospel!"
